Technical difficulties delay works

13 09 2009

RL has been very busy for me lately, so WIN update dev has been delayed.  I really want to get it done soon though, so I can start work on the Lunar base.

Rebranding of the Racing Project

9 03 2009

Due to powers beyond my control (lawyers), I have been forced to rebrand our Orbiter racing development.  So for now it has been branded the Orbiter Racing Project (ORP), which may change into something sexier later on.

I just want to say to any of those few readers that I have, that this project to-date was never endorsed by the real Rocket Racing League(TM) and was never intended to compete against it… But it seems our uber creative skills at developing free open-source content for a free virtual spaceflight simulator aimed at increasing people’s interest in real space technology and engineering, convinced somebody that we were however.

ho-um.

Quiet again

26 02 2009

As any followers of my addon dev will have noticed, I have gone quiet… again.  This happens.  My development comes in fits and starts, partly due to RL, partly due to my creative motivations.  But I’m sure I will return to things in due course, as before.

Thanks for all the downloads and support for my work so far, I’m glad my offerings are used and enjoyed by some.

Beyond Phase 2…

16 12 2008

Now that Wideawake International is operational, Phase 2 of the Ascension Project is complete.  This marks an important step for AIA.  Although there are some plans for further expansion of the Wideawake base, they are not short term goals and therefore are not next on the development agenda.  It is time for AIA to turn it’s gaze away from Earth…

Currently, AIA are focusing time to the following areas:-

-Orbiter Rocket Racing League – KSC-WIN Time Trial Challenge

-Toehold Project – development of core station module

-XR5 Payloads – HOOP and other projects

-General R&D – AIA has a few other projects on the drawing board

It is likely that the ORRL time trials will be the next release from AIA, hopefully by the new year.  Following that will come the more substantial Toehold Project.  It is, as yet, undecided what shall be developed and produced first to support this effort.  But it is known that the Jupiter V-X (by AndyMC) and the XR-5(by dbeachy & RussH) have been selected as the operational vessels for the project.

Wideawake Video by Tex

9 12 2008

One of the most renowned video makers in the Orbiter Community, Tex, made the following video featuring Wideawake Interntional.  AIA would like to thank him for choosing our island for his artistic endevours!

Orbiter Rocket Racing league

23 11 2008

I am exploring the idea of AIA starting, and hosting, a Rocket Racing League within the Orbiter community (ORRL).  At this stage I am sounding out the idea to the community to get some feedback.  Read the forum thread HERE for the details so far.  Please post any thoughts you may have.

Here are 2 proof-of-concept shots to wet your whistles.

all dev on hold indefinitely

27 08 2008

For those following the development of any of my Orbiter projects, I’m sorry to say things are on hold… if you hadn’t already guessed.

While I still enjoy Orbiter and do still want to dev for it, my time is being taken up by RL and a completely seperate creative project, outside of Orbiter.  I am currently developing an RTS game which is taking all my creative energies and time.  Once this is done I may well return to Orbiter dev, but I have nothing planned as yet.

Thanks

All AIA development ceased (restarted)

8 01 2008

Development work has restarted again, see other blog categories for up-to-date information.

All development of Orbiter addons has been ceased for the foreseeable future, due to the fact I am turning my attention to a more substantial project for a 3D game engine currently in development.

I want to thank all those who have downloaded and enjoyed any of AIA’s addons, I wish you all the best in your future Orbiter endevours.

Whether AIA will return to Orbiter addon development in the future is uncertain at this time, although it is unlikely.

Projects update

4 11 2007

Ok, little project update here.

The BDB development is currently on hold whilst AIA applies it’s engineering knowhow to payloads for the XR5-Vanguard. It is expected at this time, though not confirmed, that the Vanguard will become the launch vehicle of choice for Project Toehold. At this stage it is undecided what part, if any, the BDB will play in the Project and therfore it’s development may be scrapped – although AIA recognises it may still need a large cheap launcher for heavy unmanned payloads, so no decision is being made at this time. AIA also recognises the need to keep funding it’s operations and the BDB may have use in this regard. Updates will be posted in future.

New rig up and running

23 10 2007

I have my new PC up and running, and so far have had no real trouble with Vista64 and compatability.  I plan to start some dev work again in the coming week.  The BDB will get finished, however I’m also hiring out AIA services to the Altea Aerospace and the XR5 Vanguard project, should they be required – this will take priority over the BDB in the short term.

A note on the BDB:  Texturing is almost complete, so the next major job is coding it’s SC3 and Multistage files.  Then of course I plan to make the space station modules for the first stage in the Toehold project.  Although I will likely release the BDB without payload as a beta format, once it is ready to fly/test.
